LIFE ADVICE: WHAT TO AIM FOR • - My guest on the Huberman Lab podcast out now is Dr. Bernardo Huberman. He is a physicist who immigrated to the United States to do research on particle physics, eventually moved to researching chaos theory, and then migrated into computer science and quantum computing. As his last name suggests, he is also my father. - During the episode, we discuss what it is to let one’s curiosity lead their major career life decisions: the benefits, the risks, and the goal of balancing career and everyday life. - The audio in this clip is in response to a question I asked him during the podcast which was, “Do you have any wishes for me [and for anyone wondering what to aspire to in life]?” - During the episode, we discussed science, family, leaving a politically unstable country for the USA, social dynamics, patriotism, the challenge of formality and tradition versus expressing one’s uniqueness, and of course, parents and children and why a bit of rebellion can be a good thing as long as it’s in service to real personal growth. - Obviously, this was a meaningful episode for me to record given that Dr. Huberman is my father, but I also like to think the information will be broadly of interest and use to everyone, especially for those that have a tendency to switch fields of interest quite a lot, which Dr. Huberman has done repeatedly for more than five decades. - You can find the episode by going to hubermanlab.com. It is linked out there to all formats and time stamped in detail so you can navigate quickly to the topics most of interest to you. - Meanwhile, if you have any questions about the topics in this episode or suggestions of other guests or topics you’d like me to cover on the Huberman Lab podcast, please put those in the comment section below this post. And as always, thank you for your interest in science! - @hubermanlab @stanford.med @stanford - Video: @chrisrayfilms - #neuroscience #science #ciencia #neurociencia #life #advice

WHAT THE EXISTENCE OF CHAOS (IN PHYSICS) MEANS FOR LIFE • - My guest on the Huberman Lab podcast out now is Dr Bernardo Huberman, a physicist, and computer scientist, who yes, also happens to be my father. - We discuss what it is to let your curiosity about anything, not just science, be a driving force in your life. That is what brought him to the USA in the 1960s and what has motivated his working on a variety of different scientific problems, including chaos theory. We also discuss relativity in terms that people can understand and the new field of quantum computing, which is something everyone should know about because it relates to the Internet and it will soon affect us all, at least as much as artificial intelligence and maybe more. - We also discussed how to balance thinking about high-level problems and work in general, with enjoying one daily routine in the small everyday aspects of life. - It’s a conversation I believe can be useful for anyone thinking about what direction to take their work and life or simply their mind. It’s also a conversation about disagreements between parents and children and be becoming your own person even if it takes you far from home physically or ideologically. - Note: Much Yerba Mate was consumed during the making of this episode per our Argentinian roots. - To access the episode in all formats go to hubermanlab.com It is time stamped in detail so you can navigate quickly to the topics most of interest to you. - Meanwhile, if you have any questions about the topics in this episode or suggestions of other guests or topics you’d like me to cover on the Huberman Lab podcast, please put those in the comment section below this post. HOW TO RESET YOUR CIRCADIAN CLOCK FOR HEALTH, TRAVEL OR WORK (BY ANSWERING A SIMPLE QUESTION) • - In this post, I discuss a protocol. I haven’t really covered that much which relates to your typical wake up time. If you know that you can also know what is called your temperature minimum and it doesn’t require that you measure your temperature. - With that information, you can use light and for once it doesn’t always involve sunlight (!) to make your body want to wake up at a particular time and go to sleep at a particular time. - This is a terrific science, based tool for travel if you want to offset Jetlag as well as for shift work or if you’re simply trying to adjust your schedule quickly and painlessly. - I cover this more in the episode of Huberman Lab podcast Essentials out today. (HLP Essentials are brief 30 minute episodes release every Thursday that are just focused on actionable protocols). We of course still release our full length episodes every Monday. - You can find the newest episode to HLP Essentials g-!; all other HLP episodes) by going to hubermanlab.com. There are links to all the different formats podcasts are found, YouTube, Apple, Spotify, etc., It is timestamped in details so you can navigate quickly to the topics most of interest to you. - Meanwhile, if you have any questions, please put them in the comments section below this post and as always, thank you for your interest in science! - @hubermanlab @stanford.med @stanford - #neuroscience #science #ciencia #neurociencia #temperature #sleep #wake #alarmclock #retina #light . #shift #jet #travel #shift #work #easy

THE IMPORTANCE OF CLEARLY DEFINING WHAT YOU WILL REGRET IN THE FUTURE, IF YOU FAIL TO ACT • - My guest on the Huberman Lab podcast out now is Morgan Housel, author of the book The Psychology of Money, which is grounded in his expertise as an investor, but also in the psychology of effort, reward, and loss. His book has sold more than 5 million copies and is considered among the very best on the topic of monetary and career motivation and psychology but it’s really about happiness and life meaning. - On the podcast, Morgan explains how most people over spend or under spend money. - He encourages you to ask yourself a few basic questions about your relationship to money and wealth, what you are really willing to do in terms of your goals with work, family, etc. and to define your future “regret map” as a way of reaching your goals. - It’s a very important conversation for people of all levels of wealth and ambition. Here Morgan is explaining how most people fail to do the somewhat uncomfortable exercise of thinking about what they will regret someday if they don’t do it… which is critical in order to have confidence that the way you were spending your present is aligned with a sense of purpose and meaning all along the way to, and when you arrive at, your goal/s. - During the episode, he explains the specific questions and protocols for answering these and other key questions. Morgan makes it both thought-provoking and practical. - You can find the episode by going to hubermanlab.com. - @hubermanlab @stanford.med @stanford @morganhousel - #neuroscience #science #ciencia #neurociencia #future #now #action #plan

THE REAL SCIENCE ON HORMONE DISRUPTORS IN FOOD & WATER: PLASTIC + HEAT IS INDEED A SERIOUS ISSUE • - Recently, the discussion around possible hormone disruptors in the food and water supply is everywhere. It’s important for us to look at the science. Dr. Shanna Swan has been studying these issues for decades, funded by NIH. She is as objective as they get, firmly grounded in the data from her and other laboratories. - I hosted her on the Huberman Lab podcast recently and we talked about endocrine disruptors in pesticides, but also in water bottles, food, containers, and food. - The point made here is that you want to avoid consuming food or beverages that have been in plastic containers that have been heated which includes microwaving but also plastic bottles left in cars that warm up, etc. - It’s impossible to completely avoid endocrine disruptors or plastics and that’s not the point. The point is to avoid the major endocrine disrupters. And yes, she points out this includes avoiding handling of receipts which are rich in BPAs. So if you need to do that a lot, wear gloves. - Pregnant women and kids are especially vulnerable to these endocrine disruptors. But we should all be mindful of them. - That’s the key word- mindful. Don’t be alarmist. Just take some agency over protecting yourself from endocrine disruptors. On the episode, she explains a number of other ways to do that. They are all zero cost, and in many cases save costs. - I think it’s great that these issues are finally being discussed and not being sidelined and I’m grateful to Dr. Swan for all her hard work in this area for so many years. By the way (and she OK’d me to say this) she is 89 years old, sharp as a tack and in great health and fitness. Impressive! - To find the episode go to hubermanlab.com. It is linked to all formats and timestamp details so you can navigate quickly to the topic most of interest to you. - Meanwhile, if you have any questions, please put those in the comments section below this post and as always, thank you for your interest in science! - @hubermanlab @stanford.med @stanford @drshannaswan - #neuroscience #science #ciencia #neurociencia #hormones #food #heat
